Port House – emblem of the impressive Port of Antwerp

The Port House in Antwerp houses several Belgian harbor departments. The building, designed by renowned architect Zaha Hadid, literally merges the port of Antwerp’s past and future.

The top part resembles a large ship, while the bottom part is a beautifully restored former fire station that used to be located on the port’s outer edge. There is no more apparent symbol of the immense growth the Port of Antwerp underwent.

How FPC Risk designed a fire safety concept for this mixed structure

Because of the beautiful and extraordinary architecture, FPC Risk needed to develop several derogation requests. With these requests we demonstrated how the designed fire concepts, even when slightly deviated from the prescribed codes, were nevertheless up to standard.
